          The roots of the Craftsman style homes came from the Arts and Crafts Movement launched by a group of English designers and thinkers during the 1880s in England. Meanwhile in the United States, the Greene brothers began to design houses with the Arts and Crafts concept that now called the “Craftsman house”.

          The Craftsman style homes are characterized by the following features:

- low-pitched roof and one story tall (some Craftsman style homes may have attics and dormers)

- wide eaves above a porch with square or round columns

- natural construction materials like wood and rock
